Moroccan athlete Zakaria Ahrou, representing the Al Haouz region (Amizmiz area), won first place with a time of 1 hour and 6 minutes on Monday in the 21 km International Half Marathon held in Fes. Fellow Moroccan Chaimae Alaoui from the women’s division also came first in 1 hour 22 minutes.
Abdelghani Alaoui Ismaili from Fes took second place, clocking in at 1 hour, 8 minutes, and 40 seconds. Meanwhile, Anas Zarouki from Taounate region secured third place with a time of 1 hour, 8 minutes, and 48 seconds.
In the women’s division, Sabrina Tayeb came second with a time of 1 hour and 28 minutes, and Zineb Dadi completed the podium with a time of 1 hour and 45 minutes.
The event also featured a 10-kilometer race. Hamza Ait El-Kadi, also from Al Haouz, took first place, completing the race in 31 minutes and 34 seconds. Othmane Chafnaji from Benslimane earned second place with a time of 31 minutes and 51 seconds, while Mohamed Al Baayoui from Ifrane finished third in 31 minutes and 53 seconds.
In the women’s 10-kilometer category, Aya Fathi claimed first place with a time of 40 minutes and 24 seconds. Khadija Majd secured second place, finishing in 42 minutes and 6 seconds, and Khatima Bouhali came in third at 43 minutes and 2 seconds.
Approximately 850 participants from Morocco and abroad joined the races. The route began near the historic Jnan Sbil garden, winding through landmarks like Bab Boujloud, Fes Jdid, Bab Semmarine, and Bab Al Makina.
The course also passed major streets in the modern city, including Avenue Mohammed VI Avenue, Hassan II, and Allal Ben Abdellah, offering runners a mix of historical and contemporary scenery.
