Morocco has earmarked MAD 5.8 billion in its 2025 budget to reinforce the security of its borders with Algeria and its coasts.
The funding will be allocated to the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) to procure new equipment, weapons, and ammunition, as well as to develop the necessary infrastructure to secure the kingdom’s eastern and southern regions.
Abdeltif Loudiyi, Minister Delegate for the National Defense Administration, stated that the increase in budgetary resources allocated is intended to provide support for proactive defense and security initiatives.
Morocco’s borders, extending 3,300 kilometers of land and 3,500 kilometers of coastline, present significant security concerns. Loudiyi recognized the importance of border surveillance, stating that significant human and material resources are allocated to address potential threats.
The security strategy involves a combination of fixed points, forward posts, electronic systems, and modern equipment. The key technologies employed include fixed and mobile radars, optoelectronic systems, vibration sensors, and drones.
The technologies are being implemented to safeguard both the land borders and maritime areas, particularly the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts.
