The new, highly anticipated Grand Stadium in Al Hoceima in the north of Morocco officially opens on Monday night to host a football match between Madagascar and the Comoros Islands as part of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Located in the Ait Kamra district, the stadium was constructed using cutting-edge infrastructure that was designed to meet international standards for football events. The modern facilities include top-tier turf, advanced locker rooms, state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems, and digital signage.
Built as part of the “Al Hoceima, Manarat Al Moutawassit” spatial development program, the massive, 20-hectare venue boasts world-class architecture and spatial design.
Anas Jbilou, the regional director of SONARGES (National Company for the Construction and Management of Sports Facilities) for the Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceïma region said the stadium is “ready” to host matches.
He highlighted its natural grass field, advanced technology for lighting and sound, and modern amenities such as giant screens and electronic advertising boards.
The structure features a seating capacity of 11,000, including a VIP lounge, a press conference room for 200 attendees, and spacious player locker rooms. Other facilities include rooms for referees, match observers, and a medical center, in addition to a 2,500-car parking lot.
Jbilou explained that the project furthers Morocco’s national strategy to promote sports and equip the country with international-standard facilities, bolstering its capability to host major international events.
Incorporating white and blue elements, the stadium’s façade, roof, and seating reflect the city’s identity. The facility also adheres to the latest earthquake-resistant construction standards.
