Special Olympics Morocco (SOM) and the International University of Rabat (UIR) signed an agreement to promote inclusion and healthcare assistance for athletes with mental disabilities on Thursday, SOM announced in a social media post.
As part of the “Healthy Communities MENA” annual meeting, UIR and SOM announced on social media the implementation of a series of special courses to raise awareness and train students to care for people with disabilities.
One of the courses aims to equip dentistry students with the know-how required to operate on a patient with disabilities.
The university will also provide a specialized “Masterclassroom” to train students to care for people with disabilities.
SOM said that the signing of the agreements with UIR stands as “concrete action” to support people with mental disabilities who can often face social isolation and rejection.
