Rabat and Djibouti are exploring new avenues for collaboration in urban management following a meeting on Friday between their mayors, Fatiha El Moudni and Said Daoud Al Misgagui, respectively.
During El Moudni’s visit to Djibouti, discussions centered on enhancing cooperation in areas such as fiscal management, urban addressing, and the internationalization of cities, according to Morocco’s News Agency (MAP).
A key focus was the urban development project in Balbala, supported by the International Decentralized Cooperation Support Fund (FACDI), which exemplifies Morocco’s commitment to South-South partnerships with African nations.
Governance structures for the project were outlined, and an operational roadmap was drafted to ensure effective implementation.
The meeting also laid the groundwork for technical cooperation to advance projects within Djibouti’s urban action plan.
El Moudni’s visit builds on a 2022 memorandum of understanding between the two capitals. It also included high-level talks with Djibouti’s Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed and other senior officials, underscoring the growing partnership between the two nations in urban and sustainable development.
