Morocco’s National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) has just completed a project of around MAD 26.1 million to secure a drinking water supply for the fishing village of Amgrew in the Tarfaya province in southern Morocco, using a seawater desalination plant.
The desalination plant is ONEE’s 12th unit and the 10th in the southern region of the Kingdom, according to an ONEE press release.
Financed by ONEE and the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra Regional Council, the project includes equipping a seawater well with a flow rate of 1,037 cubic meters per day and constructing a seawater desalination plant with a production capacity of 432 cubic meters of drinking water per day.
The project also involves the construction of raw and treated water storage tanks, installing a 250 KVA medium/low voltage transformer station, laying a 700-meter discharge pipeline, and building an elevated treated water storage tank with a capacity of 250 cubic meters.
Amgrew’s new plant will also contribute to improving the living conditions of the local population and support the region’s socio-economic development.
