Morocco demonstrated its commitment against nuclear and radiological terrorism through active participation in the US-led Global Forum for the Prevention of Nuclear and Radiological Terrorism (Global FTPRNT) held in Bucharest, Romania, from November 13 to 15, Morocco’s News Agency (MAP) reported.
Redouane Houssaini, Director of United Nations and International Organizations at Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented Morocco during the forum.
He underpinned the importance of addressing the urgent security challenges facing the global community, particularly in Africa and the Sahel region.
Morocco’s multidimensional strategy in combating nuclear terrorism, includes national measures, capacity-building for African nations, and promoting regional cooperation to address security risks, Houssaini recalled in his comments.
Houssaini also underscored the growing links between terrorist groups, separatist militias, organized crime, and the risk of nuclear, radiological, chemical, and biological materials “falling into the wrong hands.”
The Moroccan delegation included Ambassador Hassan Abouyoub and representatives from the Ministry of Interior and the General Directorate of National Security, further strengthening Morocco’s collaborative efforts in the fight against nuclear terrorism.
