Morocco targets fleet expansion of its Atlantic naval capabilities with the addition of at least one submarine, Spanish media outlet El Confidencial Digital reported.
The Royal Moroccan Navy plans to deploy the new submarine at Ksar es-Seghir, a key base for Atlantic operations.
Moroccan officials are considering several purchase options, including a Russian-made Amur-class submarine. The fifth-generation model features advanced air-independent propulsion technology, allowing longer and quieter underwater missions by reducing oxygen needs.
In 2017, Morocco explored a deal with Greece to acquire used submarines as training platforms for crews expected to operate more advanced models.
