Moroccan football player Ilias Akhomach, Spanish club Villarreal’s forward, will miss the rest of the season after a serious knee injury in Saturday’s match against Spanish club Alaves, according to converging media sources.
Medical tests showed that Akhomach suffered a complete tear of his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and a sprain in his Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) in his right knee.
Akhomach had just scored his first goal against Alaves, marking a strong start before he went down with the injury shortly before halftime.
The incident occurred following an altercation with Alaves midfielder Antonio Blanco, which forced Akhomach to exit the game early.
Villarreal said that Akhomach will undergo surgery soon. Although the club hasn’t specified a recovery timeline, similar injuries typically require six to eight months of rehabilitation.
Akhomach’s loss is considered a major blow to Villarreal, who will need to fill the gap left by the young Moroccan striker as they push through the rest of the season.
