Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita met with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Sochi on Sunday to advance the two countries’ partnership and discuss key regional and international issues.
The meeting took place during the first Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum.
Bourita and Lavrov discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchanged perspectives on matters of shared concern across Africa, the Middle East, and beyond.
The meeting of the two officials reflected the longstanding ties between Morocco and Russia, deepened in recent years by a strategic partnership under Morocco’s King Mohammed VI and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.
The partnership, which began with King Mohammed’s historic visit to Moscow in 2016, has become a cornerstone of cooperation for both countries.
The ministers’ meeting in Sochi comes after a series of recent diplomatic exchanges between Morocco and Russia. In September, Bourita and Lavrov met during the UN General Assembly in New York, and later at the 6th Russia-Arab World Cooperation Forum held in Marrakech in December 2023.
