The “Direct Aid to Housing” program has helped 28,458 Moroccans to secure their own homes by November 5, Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, Minister of National Territory Planning, Urbanism, Housing, and City Policy, said on Thursday in the Lower House.
Direct Aid to Housing is a royal, state-funded program intended to improve citizens’ purchasing power to afford proper dwellings. Running from 2024 to 2028, the initiative offers financial assistance based on the value of the property. Houses worth MAD 300,000 or less will receive MAD 100,000 in aid, while those valued between MAD 300,000 – 700,000 will receive MAD 70,000.
The committee in charge of the program received 111,745 applications from all over the country, 37% of which were from young people under the age of 35. Around 89% of these applications met the eligibility criteria.
Out of the total number of applications received, 22% were submitted by Moroccans living abroad, while 41% were submitted by women.
In her presentation of the ministry’s 2025 budget, Mansouri stated that the total value of homes purchased through the program amounted to MAD 11.4 billion, with the government contributing MAD 2.3 billion, approximately 20% of the total cost.
She outlined the 2025 work program for the National Territorial Planning sector, including the completion of the approval process for national policy directions and their alignment with regional planning strategies.
Morocco’s urban network comprises 365 cities and urban centers, which play an important role in the country’s economic growth. The urbanization rate is projected to reach 65% by 2025, she added.
The minister reported that, from January to September 2024, the living conditions of 7,685 families had been improved. She added that ongoing projects are expected to benefit more than 69,000 families in the future.
