Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces (FAR) units assigned to coastal surveillance foiled multiple irregular migration attempts in Tan-Tan and Sidi Ifni in southern Morocco on Wednesday and Thursday, Morocco’s News Agency (MAP) reported.
The officers arrested on Wednesday eight Moroccan smugglers and 11 irregular migrants of various nationalities and seized five Jeeps in an operation in Aoreora, 20 kilometers North of Tan-Tan, according to a statement from the General Staff of the FAR.
A Royal Navy Coast Guard intercepted an inflatable boat 50 kilometers northwest of Tan-Tan, carrying 54 migrants, including 34 Moroccans and 20 sub-Saharan Africans, on the same day.
Coastal surveillance teams intercepted on Thursday 110 would-be migrants, including 102 sub-Saharan Africans and eight Asians, 33 kilometers southwest of Sidi Ifni.
The migrants were handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie to be detained for routine processing.
