A large majority of delegates from 96 INTERPOL member states elected Morocco INTERPOL’s Vice President for Africa during its 92nd General Assembly, held in Glasgow, Scotland, from November 4-7, 2024, Morocco’s News Agency reported.
The election recognizes Morocco’s ongoing efforts to maintain regional and global security, as well as its leadership in promoting South-South security cooperation. Morocco’s candidacy was driven by a strong commitment to enhancing Africa’s law enforcement capabilities, strengthening security infrastructure, and combating shared challenges such as illegal migration, human trafficking, and transnational organized crime.
Morocco’s election reflects a comprehensive approach to investing in Africa’s law enforcement resources and fostering regional security cooperation. As a key partner in combating illegal migration and its links to organized crime, Morocco is working to further develop public security infrastructure across the continent and share its expertise with security agencies.
As part of its new role on the INTERPOL Executive Committee, Morocco will work closely with National Central Bureaus across Africa and around the world to coordinate swift and effective responses to terrorist threats from regional extremist groups. Morocco is also committed to addressing emerging risks, such as the misuse of artificial intelligence and modern technologies by criminal organizations.
Mohamed Dkhissi, Director of the Judicial Police and Head of INTERPOL Rabat’s National Central Bureau, will represent Morocco on the INTERPOL Executive Committee.
Abdellatif Hammouchi, Head of the National Police (DGSN) and the Territorial Surveillance Agency (DGST), led the Moroccan delegation at the General Assembly. He participated in key multilateral discussions and bilateral meetings about strengthening international security cooperation, enhancing joint policing efforts, and supporting Morocco’s bid for the Vice Presidency of INTERPOL for Africa.
