The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that it is significantly increasing the amount of prize money awarded for the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco. Each of the eight competing clubs received a minimum of USD 150,000, a move aimed at boosting the growth and competitiveness of women’s football across Africa.
Under CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe’s leadership, the organization has made substantial strides to support and elevate women’s football, with this year’s prize pool having risen 52% to USD 2,350,000.,The raise is part of CAF’s commitment to making the tournament more attractive and beneficial for participating clubs.
The prize breaks down to USD 600,000 awarded to the champion, USD 400,000 to the runner-up, USD 350,000 to the third place team, and USD 300,000 to the fourth place team. Teams finishing third in the group stage will receive USD 200,000, while those in fourth place will earn USD 150,000.
Dr. Motsepe’s broader goals include increasing investment in youth academies for both boys and girls to build talent from the ground up across the continent. By expanding prize funds in various competitions, CAF aims to enhance the profile of African women’s football and attract a global audience.
Raising the prize money is an important investment in African women’s football, she believes. It will provide clubs with resources to improve training, infrastructure, and player development, to advance African sport and reinforce CAF’s commitment to a more competitive and globally recognized women’s league.
