King Mohammed VI delivered a speech on Wednesday, commemorating the 49th anniversary of the Green March, reiterating the Moroccan people’s unwavering dedication to the kingdom’s territorial integrity and their historic bond to the Moroccan monarchy.
He reaffirmed that the Green March was a peaceful movement that strengthened the bond between the Sahara’s inhabitants and their homeland.
The monarch discussed the enhanced security and stability of the southern provinces, challenging the views of those who he believes adhere to outdated positions.
The King criticized those politicizing legal matters for narrow agendas, stating, “Morocco’s partnerships and legal commitments will never compromise its territorial integrity and sovereignty.”
He condemned opponents of a census of the Tindouf camps’ refugees, highlighting that they are deprived of basic rights and are exploited for international aid.
King Mohammed VI reiterated that some continue to push for a referendum, despite the UN deeming it unworkable.
“Now is time for the United Nations to assume its responsibility and spell out the major difference between the real, legitimate world – represented by Morocco in its Sahara – and a world which is frozen in time, and which is disconnected from reality and the developments that have taken place,” he stated.
He also indicated that some groups, using the Sahara issue as a pretext, seek access to the Atlantic, while Morocco has proposed an initiative to help Sahel countries achieve this through cooperation.
He commended the patriotism of Moroccans abroad, noting their commitment to defending Morocco’s sovereignty and contributing to its development.
