Donald Trump has been elected the 47th president of the United States, according to a race call by the Associated Press.
Trump secured the key states of Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, whose combined 29 electoral votes pushed him past the 270 needed to win the presidency. As of 5:34 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Trump had amassed a total of 277 electoral votes.
Prior to the race call for Wisconsin, and before the Associated Press had called the race in his favor, Trump addressed supporters at the Palm Beach Convention Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. Standing alongside his family and staff, he spoke to the assembled crowd.
“We overcame obstacles that nobody thought possible,” Trump said.
Trump said that he won the popular vote, but those results have not been fully tabulated.
Votes from overseas US military members, their families, and American expats abroad will still be coming in over the next few days and will need to be counted.
