Morocco is participating in the 40th ministerial session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC-OIC), which began on Monday until Tuesday, in Istanbul Türkiye.
The Moroccan delegation, led by Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour, includes Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui, Director of the Bayt Mal Al Quds Agency- the executive arm of the Al Qods Committee—and Morocco’s Ambassador to Türkiye Mohamed Ali Lazrak.
Morocco’s participation in this 40th session, a forum for dialogue and knowledge exchange, aligns with the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening economic and trade relations with OIC member countries.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha inaugurated the session, reported Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP). The program includes a progress review of the OIC 2016-2025 Action Program and discussions on the global economic shifts affecting member countries. As well as intra-OIC trade and enhancing the role of the private sector in economic cooperation.
The Committee plans to address the trade preference system, the Islamic Trade Fairs Program, and ways to boost financial cooperation among OIC members. Further topics include improving transport and communication systems, fostering a sustainable and competitive tourism sector, and enhancing agricultural productivity among others.
The 40th COMCEC-OIC session will feature an exhibition entitled “Al Quds: From the Past to the Future.” In addition to the conference: “The Leading Role of Women in the Green Economy: Zero Waste Initiative.”
As the first platform for multilateral economic and trade cooperation in the Islamic world, COMCEC was established at the 3rd Islamic Summit in Mecca Saudi Arabia in 1981 and became operational at the 4th OIC Summit held in Casablanca in 1984.
