Moroccan cyclist Mouhcine Kouraji claimed the title of the 35th Tour du Faso race on Sunday in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, securing Morocco’s sixth victory in this international competition, Morocco’s News Agency (MAP) reported.
Burkina Faso’s transitional president, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, presided over the 10th and final stage of the race and presented Kouraji with his yellow jersey.
Kouraji won both the first and fifth stages and retained the yellow jersey throughout the tour.
His teammate, Driss Alouani, claimed the Best Young Rider jersey after winning the eighth stage.
In the team standings, Morocco took first place ahead of Russia.
The team included Mouhcine Kouraji, Driss Alouani, Adil Arbaoui, Ibrahim Sabbahi, El Houçaine Sabbahi, and Mehdi Arbaoui, all under the guidance of coach Mouhcine Lahssaini, a former winner of the Tour in 2015.
The 35th Tour du Faso spanned a total of 1,193.8 km over 10 stages, with the shortest stage being the fifth (85.5 km) and the longest, the ninth stage (145.8 km).
