The death toll from the destructive floods that struck Valencia, Spain has climbed to 217, officials announced Sunday.
Search for survivors and recovery efforts continue in the mud-filled cities and towns.
However, the weather is expected to get worse later today.
Residents of the flood-hit Valencia region received warnings to stay home on Sunday evening as the national weather agency issued a new severe rainfall alert.
“Police using megaphones alerted residents in Valencia and the surrounding region to return home as the first drops began to fall,” AFP reported.
