Gotion Power Morocco, a branch of China’s Gotion High Tech, plans to power its upcoming gigafactory, to make rechargeable batteries, in Morocco through a new 500-megawatt Saudi-built wind farm, Reuters reported on Thursday.
Saudi energy firm ACWA Power will develop the USD 800 million wind project, a key part of its USD 1.78 billion investment package which was announced at the Future Investment Initiative conference in Riyadh on Tuesday.
Gotion High Tech reached a USD 1.3 billion agreement with Morocco’s government in June to establish the nation’s first gigafactory.
Production will start in the third quarter of 2026 with an initial output capacity of 20 gigawatt-hours (GWh) annually.
