Morocco’s Princess Lalla Hasnaa and Qatar’s Sheikha Al Mayassa Bint Hamad Al-Thani inaugurated Morocco’s pavilion “Dar Al Maghreb” on Friday in Doha. The pavilion celebrating Moroccan culture and history was created for the Qatar-Morocco Cultural Year 2024.
The pavilion spans 1,300 square meters. Its design is inspired by the UNESCO World Heritage site Ksar Aït Benhaddou, reflecting traditional Moroccan building techniques using earth.
Adjacent to Doha’s Museum of Islamic Art, Dar Al Maghreb encompasses the thematic spaces “Morocco, a Land of Confluences,” “Morocco, a Land of Light,” “Morocco, a Land of Gathering,” and “Morocco, a Land of Passion.”
The “Land of Confluences” space highlights Morocco’s role as a crossroads of civilizations, focusing on dialogue between continents. The section also showcases Morocco’s commitment to sustainable development from its ancient roots to its modern vision, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
“Land of Light” invites visitors to explore Morocco’s sensory and cultural richness across five unique areas, adorned with traditional zellige tilework and intricately carved wooden ceilings, celebrating Moroccan artisanship. Key UNESCO and ICESCO-recognized cultural treasures are displayed through audiovisual installations.
“Land of Gathering” celebrates Morocco as a vibrant host of global events, such as COP22 and the 2030 World Cup, showcasing its dedication to international dialogue on sustainability and sports.
The final space, “Land of Passion,” reflects Morocco’s deep love for football, recounting the nation’s journey from its first clubs to its impressive performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, as well as preparations to host the 2030 event.
Upon arrival, Lolwah Al-Khater, Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation welcomed Princess Lalla Hasnaa. Before the opening, officials such as the Ambassador to Qatar, Mohamed Setri greeted Princess Lalla Hasnaa and Sheikha Al Mayassa.
