Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport reported a strong 21.91% annual rise in passenger traffic as of the end of September 2024, according to the National Airports Office (ONDA).
ONDA attributed the growth to a sharp increase in international and domestic travelers.
During the first nine months of the year, Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport welcomed 1,802,300 passengers, up from 1,478,341 over the same period in 2023. In September alone, the airport recorded a notable 30.64% jump, serving 225,605 travelers, compared to 172,696 in September of last year.
The airport also experienced growth in flight operations. It handled about 14,121 flights during the first nine months of 2024, an 11% increase from the 12,652 flights recorded during the same period in 2023.
September added to the trend, with 1,704 flights, up 20% from the 1,418 flights during the same month last year.
The upward trend in Tangier is in line with a broader surge all across Moroccan airports. In total, a record 24,274,324 passengers had travelled through Moroccan airports as of the end of September, an overall increase of 19%.
Several airports in Morocco registered double-digit growth during this period. Rabat-Salé Airport led the charge with a 42% increase, followed by Agadir at 36%, Dakhla at 35%, Marrakech at 33%, and Tétouan at 31%. Tangier’s 21% growth rounded out this positive trend.
