Nearly 70 cloud seeding operations have been conducted this year, a significant increase from previous years, Morocco’s Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka told the Upper House on Tuesday. About 30 of those were land-based and 40 aerial.
Baraka explained that Morocco’s cloud seeding efforts are focused on regions including Azilal, Béni Mellal, and El Hajeb, where existing infrastructure and a dedicated fleet of aircraft support the operations.
Successful cloud seeding requires specific conditions, equipment, and precise timing to ensure cost-effectiveness and optimal impact on cloud formations, according to Baraka.
Morocco has been a leader in cloud seeding within Africa, he said, having had extensive experience in assisting multiple African nations.
Baraka committed to expanding cloud seeding efforts to new regions as demand for potable and irrigation water grows, and continuing to pursue Morocco’s proactive approach to managing water resources.
