The number of passengers traveling through Moulay Ali Cherif Airport in Errachidia in southeast Morocco rose by 41.63% in the first nine months of 2024 (66,554 travelers compared to 46,991 during the same period in 2023), according to the National Airports Office (ONDA). The number of flights also increased to 797, a 27.7% increase from the 624 recorded during the first three quarters of 2023.
In September alone, Errachidia airport welcomed 8,244 passengers, up 72.4% compared to the same month last year.
Across Morocco, airports reported a record-breaking 24.27 million passengers as of September’s end, reflecting a 19.66% rise overall from last year.
Morocco’s steady growth in air travel across its regional airports, particularly Errachidia, signals a post-pandemic recovery and rising demand for domestic and international travel options.
Errachidia’s recent increase in airport traffic was probably driven to some degree by the city’s proximity to the desert flood areas impacted by heavy rains over the last couple of months that transformed the normally golden sand dunes into magnificent waterscapes.
