Morocco’s Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit and Estelle Brachlianoff, the General Director of the French utility company Veolia, signed a protocol agreement in seawater desalination on Tuesday.
The protocol outlines Veolia Environment’s plan to establish a seawater desalination plant in Rabat with a capacity of 822,000 cubic meters per day, – equivalent to 300 million cubic meters annually- at the most competitive cost per cubic meter of potable water.
The plant will primarily rely on renewable energy sources for electricity supply.
Both parties will collaborate on the project as outlined in the protocol, targeting a price of 4.5 MAD per cubic meter, excluding taxes.
The signing of the agreement is part of the Moroccan-French cooperation, taking place during the three-day state visit of France’s President Emmanuel Macron and the First Lady, to the Kingdom of Morocco.
