France’s President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron visited Morocco’s iconic Mohammed V Mausoleum in Rabat today, where they honored the memory of Morocco’s late kings, Mohammed V and Hassan II.
Their state visit to Morocco began yesterday, a significant diplomatic gesture by the French leader at the invitation of King Mohammed VI.
Upon their arrival at the mausoleum, the Macrons received a welcome from the mausoleum’s custodian and members of Morocco’s Royal Guard.
As they approached the tombs of the late monarchs, President Macron and the First Lady laid a wreath, pausing for a moment of silence. They then learned about the architectural and cultural significance of the mausoleum, one of Morocco’s most revered landmarks.
The president and his wife left a written message in the mausoleum’s Golden Book, and Moroccan officials presented them with a commemorative shield and a historical book detailing the mausoleum’s legacy.
Prominent officials, including Morocco’s Minister of National Territorial Planning Fatima Zahra Mansouri, and Morocco’s Ambassador to Paris, Samira Sitaeil, joined the Macrons for the visit. Christophe Lecourtier, France’s Ambassador to Morocco, also accompanied the delegation.
