Turkish police have detained 216 people suspected of ties to ISIS in a major security sweep, according to the country’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya. Authorities are now investigating the suspects for their alleged involvement in financing the terrorist organization.
Conducted across 45 cities, including Istanbul and Ankara, the operation targeted individuals believed to have actively supported ISIS operations in the past.
Since June 2023, Turkish forces have arrested more than 3,600 individuals on suspicion of being affiliated with ISIS as part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
Türkiye has faced multiple ISIS-related attacks in recent years, including a deadly 2017 nightclub shooting that left dozens dead.
