Morocco’s national police, in coordination with customs officers, seized more than 72 kilograms of cocaine on Saturday in two separate operations to combat international drug trafficking, a security source reported.
Authorities uncovered 197 bricks of cocaine weighing a total of 55.95 kilograms hidden inside an international freight truck arriving from a sub-Saharan African country, in El Guergarat, near Dakhla in the south. The 55-year-old driver was arrested.
In a separate operation, authorities seized in the northern port of Tanger Med, 14 bricks of cocaine, weighing 16.23 kilograms, concealed within a shipping container originating from a Latin American country. The destination of the shipments was not disclosed.
Under the supervision of the public prosecutor, police launched a probe in coordination with Interpol to identify those involved in the shipment, trace smuggling routes, and determine the final destinations of the drugs. The investigation involves all countries the shipment passed through before arriving in Morocco.
