The inaugural direct flight from New York landed at Marrakech-Menara Airport on Friday, a significant milestone for the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), which launched the service with the American air carrier United Airlines.
Following an agreement signed in March, the new route is the first direct service operated by an American airline to Morocco and North Africa.
The New York-Marrakech route offers three weekly flights, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, aboard a Boeing 767-300 configured with United Airlines’ award-winning Polaris, Premium Plus business, and Premium Economy cabins.
The U.S. Ambassador to Morocco Puneet Talwar highlighted the importance of the new air link, saying it signals a “new era” in U.S.-Morocco relations and will enhance cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Siham Fettouhi, Director of the ONMT office in New York, described the flight as a “historic moment.” She added that the new service is designed to attract American tourists to explore the offerings of Marrakech and Morocco.
The flight carried 35 travel advisors from Signature Travel Network and Virtuoso, two major luxury travel groups in the U.S., who will be visiting key destinations, including Marrakech, Casablanca, Rabat, Essaouira, and Agafay.
