The Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health, in collaboration with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), announced on Tuesday that they are launching Morocco’s first ever university degree focused on “football pathologies.”
The new degree is designed to train medical professionals to identify and treat football-related injuries and conditions, and to provide the medical expertise they need to care for athletes in both amateur and professional leagues.
The initiative is part of the Mohammed VI Foundation’s broader mission to become a leader in the fields of sports medicine and sports surgery.
According to Christophe Baudot, Medical Director of the FRMF and Director of the Foundation’s Health and Sport Division, the degree will improve the quality of medical care available to Moroccan football players.
As part of the program, experts from European institutions will collaborate with Moroccan sports doctors to ensure that research and practice go hand in hand.
The degree program is being established under a 2023 agreement between the FRMF and the Mohammed VI Foundation that focuses on expanding Morocco’s sports medicine offerings in anticipation of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
In addition to training specialists, the agreement includes plans to develop advanced anti-doping centers and create a national sports health strategy. Three new sports medical-surgical centers are also expected to be built in Sale, Benslimane, and Tangier in addition to an African sports rehabilitation center in Dakhla.
