Chinese manufacturer China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC) has announced it will participate in the 2024 Marrakech International Air Show, scheduled to take place from October 30 to November 2.
CATIC plans to showcase its J-10 fighter jet, also known as the Vigorous Dragon or Powerful Dragon, for the first time in Morocco. Designed by Chengdu Aerospace Corporation, the fourth-generation aircraft has already gained traction in several Arab markets, particularly Egypt, due to its competitive performance.
The J-10 is a versatile combat aircraft featuring a delta wing design with canards, providing exceptional maneuverability. It incorporates stealth technology, advanced avionics, and state-of-the-art electronic warfare systems. Capable of fulfilling multiple roles on the battlefield, the jet excels in ground attack, air superiority missions, and beyond-visual-range engagements, according to the company.
China is said to be optimistic about Morocco’s interest in purchasing the J-10, particularly as Rabat is working to diversify its sources of military equipment. Already operational in the Chinese Air Force, the J-10 offers an attractive cost-performance ratio, making it a compelling option for countries looking to enhance their fleets affordably.
At the Marrakech Air Show, CATIC representatives will try to convince Moroccan decision-makers of the strategic and economic advantages of the fighter jet. The aircraft could significantly enhance Morocco’s air defense capabilities while encouraging partnerships with non-traditional suppliers.
