The Canary Islands government has announced that its president, Fernando Clavijo, will be leading a delegation of scientists and business leaders to Morocco this week to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two territories, Spain’s News Agency (EFE) reported.
Clavijo’s visit comes less than two weeks after his last official trip to Rabat.
The delegation plans to formalize collaboration agreements with Mohammed VI Polytechnic University across a range of scientific disciplines, according to the same source.
More than 30 scientists and business leaders are expected to participate as part of the delegation’s efforts to promote Canary Island-Moroccan development collaboration.
During his earlier visit on October 8, Clavijo commended Morocco’s initiatives in maintaining regional stability, particularly in addressing the challenges of illegal migration and human trafficking.
He had reaffirmed that the Canary Islands’ stance on the Sahara is aligned with Spain’s official policy, thus fostering mutual trust between the two countries.
He also reiterated the importance of collaboration with Morocco to address challenges such as migration, drought, and water shortages.
