Abdellatif Miraoui, Morocco’s Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, told Parliament on Monday that the number of students now enrolled in Moroccan universities for the 2024-2025 academic year is 1.3 million students, representing a 5.9% increase compared to last year.
In response to an oral question in the Lower House regarding new developments for the current academic year, Miraoui noted that 344,679 new students are attending higher education institutions, 91% of whom have enrolled in public universities.
There have been a significant “expansion and diversification of training programs” in Morocco to meet the needs of various economic areas, he said. “More than 4,000 programs have been accredited in development-related fields—3,000 in public institutions and 1,000 in private ones.”
The minister also reported a 21% increase in enrollment rates for limited-access programs, a a result of creating and expanding excellence centers. They now “offer more than 15,000 places this year, up from approximately 6,500 last year.”
