Morocco’s National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) and the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) signed a contract on Monday to transport natural gas to ONEE’s power plants via the Maghreb-Europe Gas Pipeline.
The agreement formalizes the long-standing collaboration between the two institutions, which resulted in the launch of the “Reverse Flow” gas transportation system in June 2022.
The Reverse Flow system involves the importation of liquefied natural gas from international markets by ship, which is unloaded at a Spanish port and then re-gasified at a Spanish terminal before being transported by pipeline to Morocco, ONHYM said in a press release.
ONHYM’s General Director Amina Benkhadra and ONEE’s General Director Tarik Hamane applauded their teams’ ongoing coordination and the quality of ONHYM’s service provided through its subsidiary OMCo.
