Morocco’s national beach soccer team, the Atlas Lions, lost 3-2 to the country host Egypt on Tuesday in its final group stage match of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Hurghada.
Adnan Oubhri opened the scoring for Morocco in the 11th minute, followed by Badr El Qorichli in the 35th minute.
Egypt’s Mohamed Abdel Nabi scored in the 5th and 17th minutes, followed by Ismail Bahjat in the 32nd minute.
Morocco now advances to the semi-finals, where it will compete against the leader of Group B.
The Atlas Lions have achieved two victories and gained six points in their group matches, finishing behind Egypt, which topped the group with nine points.
Ghana earned three points, while Tanzania failed to earn any points.
A victory in the semi-finals would lead to qualification for the World Cup, that will be hosted by the Seychelles next year from May 1 to 11.
