As part of a plan to significantly enhance Morocco’s defense sector, the Moroccan government’s 2025 approved finance bill is allocating an unprecedented MAD 133 billion to modernize the Kingdom’s military capabilities in response to growing regional security threats, Barlamane.com reported.
The 2025 budget is a substantial increase from the MAD 119 billion allocated in 2023 (+11.8%) and MAD 124 billion in 2024 (+7.3%) to defense, underscoring Morocco’s strategy to strengthen its military forces and reinforce its strategic sovereignty.
Morocco has recently ramped up its military spending, acquiring advanced “Viper” fighter jets and C-390 military transport aircraft. The Royal Navy also plans to acquire its first-ever submarine, significantly boosting the Kingdom’s naval fleet.
Aiming for greater autonomy in military production, the government is also focused on fostering an innovative local defense industry, according to our sources.
Morocco’s MAD 133 billion budget is strategically focusing on the maintenance and modernization of existing military equipment to ensure the Royal Armed Forces’ (FAR) operational readiness. A portion of the allocated funding will also go toward the research and development efforts that are essential for keeping pace with rapidly advancing military technologies.
