The inaugural “Surf Casting No Kill” sport fishing competition began in Morocco’s coastal city of Dakhla, located in the south, on Saturday and will run until November 2, featuring over 23 competitors from several Moroccan cities, Morocco’s News Agency (MAP) reported.
Adopting the “No Kill” principle, participants are committed to releasing all captured fish back into the sea, ensuring the protection of the region’s marine ecosystem.
Othmane Aâmar, President of the Oued Eddahab Provincial Tourism Council, stated that the event showcases Dakhla’s unique natural beauty and growing status as a top water sports destination.
He hoped the competition would become an annual event, boosting the city’s international reputation.
The competition has two stages, with the national round from October 19 to 21 qualifying Moroccan anglers for the international round on November 2, where they will compete against international professionals.
In addition to the fishing competition, a beach clean-up will be organized to raise awareness of environmental issues, while a medical caravan will provide free consultations and services to the local population on October 25-26, highlighting the event’s social aspect.
The Oued Eddahab Provincial Tourism Council, Morocco’s phosphate giant OCP, the Moroccan Society for Tourism Engineering (SMIT), and Barid Al-Maghrib co-sponsored the event, enhancing Dakhla’s standing as a hub for eco-friendly sports tourism.
