Morocco will be the guest of honor at the 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2024), which will take place from November 6-17 at the Sharjah Expo Center, in the United Arab Emirates, the organizers said in a press release.
This year’s event features a vibrant showcase of Morocco’s deep cultural and historical roots through an extensive program of 107 events. Over 100 prominent figures, including writers, intellectuals, and publishers, will be leading these activities, highlighting Morocco’s diverse cultural heritage.
A rich tapestry of events, tailored to provide an overview of Morocco’s cultural heritage, will characterize Morocco’s participation at SIBF 2024.
A total of 17 cultural debates and panels will be held on themes such as “Moroccan Identity in History, civilization and Heritage”, “Moroccans Abroad and the Influence of Moroccan Literature Across Languages and Cultures” and “The Moroccan School of Philosophy and Contemporary Arab Thought.”
The fair will feature esteemed Moroccan authors and intellectuals like Dr. Ahmed Shawki Benbin, Dr. Jamaa Baida, and Dr. Ahmed Boukous. Literary sessions will delve into Moroccan literature, philosophy, and historical perspectives.
The event will feature performances by 36 musical groups, including the Issawa band and the Gnawa music ensemble, both of which have been recognized by UNESCO for their cultural significance. A theatrical performance by the Kawalis Art and Culture troupe will bring Moroccan stories to life through drama and poetry.
Interactive workshops for children will highlight Moroccan heritage through traditional arts and storytelling, along with tasting sessions of Moroccan cuisine to experience its vibrant flavors.
Morocco’s presence at SIBF 2024 will include a large 189-square-meter pavilion showcasing cultural treasures, including rare manuscripts, museum artifacts, and digital displays of iconic landmarks. Visitors can also enjoy traditional Moroccan green tea in a special corner of the pavilion for an immersive cultural experience.
SIBF 2024 is designed to celebrate Morocco’s cultural patrimony by fostering international exchanges and collaborations.
