Morocco’s national beach soccer team, the Atlas Lions, defeated its Tanzanian counterpart with a score of 4-3 on Saturday, in Africa’s Cup of Nations (AFCON) of the discipline, held in Egypt.
Morocco’s Rida Zahraoui opened the scoring in the 4th minute, with Badr Al-Quraishi, Idris Ghannam, and Zuhair Jbari all adding to the tally in the 10th, 15th, and 32nd minutes respectively.
Tanzania’s Jarouf Juma scored in the 1st and 8th minutes, while Abdul Rahim Bawsi contributed an additional goal in the 35th minute.
In addition to Morocco and Tanzania, the group also includes Egypt and Ghana. Group B consists of the defending champions, Senegal, Mozambique, Malawi and Mauritania.
The Moroccan team will face Ghana in its second group match on Monday and will compete against Egypt on Tuesday. The African Beach Soccer Cup serves as a qualifier for the 2025 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, set to be hosted by Seychelles next year.
