Morocco remains an “indispensable player” in global security efforts, Javier Colomina, NATO’s Special Representative for the Southern Neighbourhood said on Wednesday in Rabat, following a meeting with Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
“Morocco is a vital partner for us. It is an indispensable player when we talk about security,” Colomina told reporters, highlighting the country’s critical role in maintaining regional stability.
He also pointed out Morocco’s strong contributions to counterterrorism efforts, describing the Kingdom as “a key actor” in the fight against terrorism. He added that the “practical cooperation” between NATO and Morocco is a crucial element in addressing security challenges.
The discussions between Colomina and Bourita also focused on exploring ways to deepen the “already strong” cooperation between NATO and Morocco on political, civil, and military fronts.
Morocco is a member of NATO’s Mediterranean Dialogue, a partnership initiative designed to promote security and stability across the Mediterranean region.
Colomina’s visit marks his first to Morocco in his role as Special Representative for the Southern Neighbourhood.
During the visit, he met key regional figures to address shared concerns and find collaborative solutions to issues such as terrorism, cybersecurity, maritime security, and migration.
