Moroccan officials participated in the 89th meeting of the Executive Bureau of the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Urban Development on Wednesday at the Arab League’s headquarters in Cairo, Egypt. The meeting focused on key topics related to sustainable urbanism and housing, Morocco’s News Agency (MAP) reported.
Government officials from the participating countries reviewed progress in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and implementing the Arab Strategy for Sustainable Housing Development.
Speakers underscored the importance of sharing expertise among regional and international Arab organizations to mutually advance the housing and urban development sectors across member states.
Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Municipalities and Housing, Abdurrahman Al-Tawil, underscored the significance of the meeting in highlighting developments, challenges, and future prospects in the sector while promoting knowledge exchange among participating countries. He noted that housing being a key element of Arab countries’ development plans, improving housing services and optimizing resources with Arab citizens are at the center of development projects.
The meeting also planned several upcoming events, including the 8th Arab Housing Congress, entitled “Sustainable Urbanism: Challenges and Promising Prospects,” the 2025 Arab Housing Day, and further cooperation with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).
Several Moroccan dignitaries attended the meeting including the Kingdom’s ambassador to Cairo and permanent representative to the Arab League, Mohamed Ait Ouali, accompanied by a delegation of officials. The delegation included Hicham Airoud, Director of Housing and Real Estate Promotion, and Abdelkarim Chenki, Director of Monitoring and Auditing at the Ministry of National Land Use Planning, Urban Development, Housing, and City Policy.
