The Moroccan government will reduce the price of 169 additional medications, Khalid Ait Taleb, Minister of Health and Social Protection, said on Monday during a session at the Lower House.
The minister explained that the price cuts will be formalized after the updated medication list is published in the country’s official bulletin.
According to Ait Taleb, the price reductions of certain drugs for chronic diseases may reach up to 59%, offering much-needed relief to many Moroccan families.
The announcement follows a parliamentary question from the Haraki political group, raising concerns about the rise in medication costs. Ait Taleb reassured lawmakers that the move was part of the government’s ongoing efforts to make basic healthcare more affordable.
In addition to the upcoming reductions, Ait Taleb said that the prices of all medications in Morocco have already seen significant decreases. The measure follows the government’s decision to exempt both imported and domestically produced medications from value-added tax (VAT).
Prices for approximately 4,500 generic medicines have been reduced in recent years as a result of close cooperation between the government and pharmaceutical manufacturers.
