Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaïd, announced that the government has increased public funding and implemented new measures to attract more international film production on Monday in Rabat, Barlamane.com reported.
Bensaid noted Morocco’s ambitious goal of securing 1% of global investment in the international film production sector by 2025, according to the same source. However, he did not disclose the exact budget allocated for this investment.
Morocco has emerged as an international filming destination in recent years, thanks to its varied natural and architectural landscapes. The Kingdom intends to step up its efforts to be at the helm of the industry.
Bensaid stated that cinema is a top priority for the ministry, “given the key role this industry plays in job creation and in promoting Morocco’s image on the international stage.”
He noted the sharp increase in foreign investment in film production, which is expected to reach MAD 1 billion in 2023, compared to MAD 500 million in 2021.
The move is part of Morocco’s broader strategy to boost foreign investment, enhance the country’s image as a top filming destination, and promote cultural and creative industries.
