A 4.5-magnitude earthquake hit the Ifrane province in central Morocco on Tuesday at 10:01 a.m. (GMT+1), according to the National Institute of Geophysics (ING).
The earthquake’s epicenter was located 18 kilometers southeast of the city of Meknes, specifically in Sidi El Makhfi, a rural area in the Ifrane province. The tremor has a depth of 800 meters and occurred at latitude 33.2135° N and longitude 5.2613° W.
“A 4.5 magnitude tremor can cause panic among the citizens, but I hope it does not lead to significant damage,” ING Director Nasser Jebbour said.
Authorities are on alert to ensure public safety and to provide any necessary assistance. Residents are urged to remain calm and report any damage or aftershocks they may experience.
