Spain is advocating for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to invite Morocco to an upcoming ministerial meeting before 2025, as part of a broader effort to strengthen ties with Southern Mediterranean countries, Europa Press reported on Saturday.
The move comes as Spain seeks to boost Morocco’s involvement in NATO discussions, following the example of Asia-Pacific nations that have become regular participants in alliance meetings.
Spain is pushing for Morocco, along with other Mediterranean nations to attend the NATO foreign ministers’ meeting in December. The invitation would be part of the Mediterranean Dialogue, an initiative designed to enhance cooperation between NATO and countries in the region.
Spain’s Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares is leading this effort, viewing Morocco as a key partner in addressing shared security concerns.
