Over 80% of Moroccan women oppose the idea of equal inheritance rights for men and women, according to a recent survey from Morocco’s Forecasts and Statistics Office (HCP)
The survey results show that urban women are particularly resistant, with 89% opposing the proposed reforms, compared to 82% of women in rural areas.
Meanwhile, men overwhelmingly reject inheritance parity, with 92% opposing the change.
Despite ongoing government reforms, gender inequality remains a chronic issue plaguing Morocco, as women continue to face challenges in education, employment, and healthcare access, according to a recent report by the World Economic Forum in which the Kingdom ranked 137th out of 146 countries in the annual Gender Gap index.
The survey indicates that while many women recognize the importance of equality in theory, actual support for changes that challenge long-standing norms remains limited.
