The National Committee of Medical Students has rejected the recent proposal from the government, citing its failure to address critical concerns, according to a recent statement.
“The offer fails to address many of the questions and points raised in the list of demands and lacks clarity on several key topics,” the statement reads.
Medical students have been in an open protest for over 11 months, protesting the ministry’s decision to reduce medical training from seven to six years.
In their statement, the committee also pointed out the lack of dialogue with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, which they deem a crucial stakeholder in the matter.
Moreover, the committee maintains that the government had previously acknowledged several of the students’ achievements, which were not adequately addressed in the recent offer.
In response to these developments, the National Committee is calling for an extension of the mediation deadline established by the administration.
“We firmly believe that the deadline should be extended to allow for further discussions on the unresolved points we have raised,” the committee stated. “We appreciate the efforts of the Kingdom’s mediator but feel that more time is necessary to address our concerns adequately.”
