The value of commercially sold coastal and artisanal fish products rose by 8% to 8.46 billion MAD during the first nine months of 2024, according to the National Fisheries Office (ONP).
The weight of the products reached 936,354 tons, an increase of 2% year on year, according to ONP’s recent report on coastal and artisanal fishing statistics in Morocco.
By species, landings of cephalopods increased by 13% to 55,482 tons, pelagic fish by 4% to 774,976 tons, and white fish by 2% to 82,317 tons.
Shellfish, algae, and crustaceans, in contrast, declined by 89% to 45 metric tons, 50% to 17,527 metric tons, and 10% to 6,008 metric tons, respectively.
The unloading of coastal and artisanal fish products at Mediterranean ports reached 12,023 tons by the end of September, a 13% decrease year-on-year. However, these ports recorded a 9% increase in revenue, amounting to 561.97 million MAD.
Landings at Atlantic ports also increased by 3% to 924,331 tons.
