A new direct route from Casablanca to Toronto on Morocco’s national airline, Royal Air Maroc (RAM), is scheduled to commence on December 8, making for easier access and a significant step in strengthening ties between Morocco and Canada, according to representatives from various Canadian professional associations.
The announcement came during an opening ceremony held by RAM in Toronto on Wednesday. Speaking at the event, Morocco’s Ambassador to Canada Souriya Otmani said that “the direct flight will create new opportunities for business people, academics, artists, and citizens on both sides of the Atlantic.”
“This is an important moment in the relations between Morocco and Canada,” the ambassador added. It is “a major milestone in strengthening ties not only between the two countries but also with several Arab, African, and European nations, opening new avenues for regional and international cooperation and exchange.”
Otmani further pointed out that “the choice of Casablanca as a strategic hub for RAM underscores Morocco’s central position, not only in Africa but also as a bridge between continents.”
Nour-Eddine Ezzairi, RAM’s regional representative in Canada, noted that “this new service, operating three times a week, will further solidify RAM’s position and illustrates the airline’s ambition to expand its network.”
The direct flight from Casablanca to Toronto will also open new horizons in economic and academic areas, significantly impacting social and cultural exchanges, Ezzairi added.
As the leading regional airline in Africa, with over 90 destinations, RAM plays a crucial role in connecting Africa to the rest of the world via its Casablanca hub.
Several other speakers, including Samuel Asare, President of the GHANA Association in Ontario, and Margaret Nwosu, President of the Nigerian-Canadian Association, applauded the initiative. Representatives from various tour operators, travel agencies, and African communities in Toronto attended the opening ceremony.
The Casablanca-Toronto route is RAM’s second direct flight to Canada, enhancing the airline’s Americas network, which currently includes direct flights connecting its Casablanca hub to Montreal, New York, Washington, Boston, Miami, and São Paulo, which all will resume service on December 7.
