The Israeli military reported on Friday that air raid sirens were activated in central Israel after two drones entered the country from Lebanon, resulting in at least one building being damaged north of Tel Aviv, international news outlets reported.
“Following the sirens that sounded earlier, two UAVs (drones) were identified crossing from Lebanese territory. The aircraft were tracked as soon as they crossed the border,” the military stated.
The Israeli Air Force “successfully intercepted one of the drones. At this time, there is damage to a building in Herzliya, but no casualties have been reported,” the military added.
Approximately 20 minutes after the initial alert, the Israeli military declared the incident over.
The sirens sounded as Israelis observed the Yom Kippur holiday.
Earlier on Friday evening, air raid sirens were activated in numerous areas across northwest Israel following the launch of multiple projectiles from Lebanon, according to the military.
From sundown on Friday until nightfall on Saturday, markets are closed, flights are suspended, and public transport is halted as most Jews fast and pray on the Day of Atonement.
Given the significance of Yom Kippur as Judaism’s holiest day, the period is traditionally marked by complete media silence. However, media outlets have committed to reporting on major developments as Israel engages with Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas militants in Gaza.
